Agriculture department was started in 1994 as a section under Mechanical department, by Mr. Charles Kimwoni who was the head of section then. The section started with a few students taking Craft Certificate in General Agriculture. By 2002, there were only two students taking general agriculture. The section grew and by 2007, Diploma classes were started under modular program with 7 students. By 2012, the section was elevated to a full department. There are currently over 230 students in the department. The departments’ performance is the best in the institute at 86% pass. Because the institute is situated in an agricultural zone, the department plans to introduce courses that suit the needs of the region and when the institute becomes a national polytechnic or university, it plans to introduce degree programmes in agriculture related areas like entrepreneurial agriculture and others.
Staff: The department has 7 qualified staff employed by TSC and one on a part-time basis.
The department is headed by Mrs. Miriam Jelagat
