Social media has made it possible for the public to communicate with the county governments and elected leaders. Applications like whatsapp, facebook, instagrams among others have presented the electorate with tools for mass communication and messaging like never before. For the county governments, this powerful media tool provides a challenge and opportunity if harnessed well. At the same time, where there used to be a clear delineation between main news and yellow press, the impact of the web has resulted in a blurred line between the two industries. Some would argue that this is leading to the “death” main stream media. On the contrary, the web is actually helping to enhance the efficiency of the PR industry. So how can you incorporate social media and service delivery to enhance your county’s PR efforts? Over the course of four days, you will cover all of the core skills and concepts of strategic online PR and social media as well as specialist formats and applications. The seminar takes a tool-focused approach, based on the practical application of each online platform in strategic PR and communication. The course is modular: each day covers a different online platform, and on each day you will work through two modules, each covering a set of key concepts and skills. Within each module, best practice and key concepts are covered off in a concise briefing, followed by a range of stimulating learning activities like team workshops, group discussions, topical case studies and role-play exercises.
